Happenings in The Walz House

Last week I went into single mom mode with Brad out of town for 7 days and found free time a very limited thing.  Lucky for us (well really I should say me), hand/foot/mouth cleared up so Everett was given the green light to do back to daycare.  This mommy took full advantage of daycare, without throwing him in to the fire full time just yet…that comes next week.  I had numerous appointments, yoga classes to use up on my membership about to expire, house to clean, a classroom to get ready, a dog to give attention to (Brad usually does this), etc.  You get the picture because like any mom out there can contest to…we are busy 24/7/365!

Zucchini Overload

Every few pins I see people pinning recipes that are a “healthier” alternative to the original one.  Cauliflower pizza dough, quinoa instead of rice, and using applesauce, Greek yogurt and avocados for baking.  The current big craze is using zucchini: zucchini bread, zucchini pizza and bread sticks, zucchini brownies and cookies, etc.  I have not jumped on any of the above bandwagons because I tend to like the real thing (plus I am a really, really picky eater)!  Over the past year, Brad and I have done our best to change many of the ingredients we use and the type of food we eat.  After reading Jen Hatmaker’s book 7: An Experimental Mutiny Against Excess (totally recommend!!!),  the MOMs group I am in decided to try clean eating for 10 days.  This means zero processed food…. yep that’s right, no sugar, soda, bread, cereal, etc.  Basically anything not found in its pure form was off limits.  Oh man my husband can contest to this, but I was not a happy camper during the first two days!

Nursery Organization

When we first found out we were having a baby there was so much joy and nervousness rolled into one, fellow parents you now that feeling.  I mean how can someone have all those feelings at one time! Holy cow, talk about emotional overload.  We got pregnant right away and looking back on the time of year Everett was born, it was perfect (definitely noted for #2).  But number 2 won’t be happening anytime soon, even though Everett was an incredibly easy baby and has been a joy-filled toddler, it is hard for me to imagine 2 kids right now.  I am enjoying my time with Everett and trying to not screw up this parenting thing.  Plus I really enjoy my sleep and sanity, and I am just not ready to give those up just yet.  Ask me again in a year and I might be saying otherwise.  Do you want to know how hard it is to type this with a 15 month old attempting to pound the keyboard? I almost left all the p’s and -‘s that were randomly inserted into this post but I figured for reading purposes, I should probably take them out.

It is that time of the month……..Stitch Fix Friday! Once a month I sit patiently waiting for the arrival of a little box filled with adorable clothes.  If you haven’t heard of Stitch Fix this is how it works:

1.  You go to stitchfix.com and sign up for an account (please see below about this referral link not working yet).  When you sign up for your account you are asked detailed questions about yourself and your personal style.  I want to stress that you don’t have to enter in your credit card information at this point.  You are simply taking you “style profile quiz”.  They really want to know about your likes and dislikes with fashion so it is best to fill it out completely!

DIY Decorations

Over the past two years, I have helped/or thrown a few parties.  Before party planning begins, I always follow a few simple steps: open Pinterest, click create board and start searching for ideas that would help complete the look of the theme.  I must admit those “more pins that are similar to the one you click on” are so AMAZING.  Although, then it sucks me in to a hyperlink trail that often ends with a plethora of pins that gets my head spinning.  My biggest DIY party planning adventure was for our son’s first birthday, and GOLDEN birthday! My husband doesn’t seem to think golden birthdays are a things but as someone who is born at the very end of the month and has not had that golden birthday yet, I think they count.  Growing up I remember parents going all out for their kids golden birthdays and knowing I wouldn’t get that chance for a VERY, VERY long time.  Oh My that means I am that much closer to the big 3-0!

I know Everett won’t remember his 1st birthday nor probably care about all the photos snapped that day to capture all the special moments but as a mother and this being our first child, I care.

Hello Again…it has only been 2 years!

Recently, I added the app Timehop on my phone and if you don’t know anything about this app, well it syncs with your Facebook account and adds pictures or statuses from that day throughout time.  I find every time this app sends a new notification to me that “my day in time” is ready, it has been….”2 years ago you posted this status” and that status usually has something to do with Pinadvised.  Needless to say I have been on quite a leave from the blogging world over the past two years.  So……what have I been up to that kept me away from a computer, well to put it in better terms, kept me away from most social situations (okay that might be extreme).  I am sure you all can take one guess and for those that know me…(those little dots always make me think of a drum roll), my husband, Brad, and I welcome our son into this world on May 1st, 2013, Everett Jensen Walz.

So if you can’t tell from the number of crock-pot recipes that I have blogged about, I am all about easy.  I don’t think you can ever have too many recipes.  Today’s blog is not something that I found the exact recipe for on Pinterest, it is a combination of a few recipes all put together.  And let me tell you, this combination is to die for! Absolutely delicious and is a must try.
